SOUTH STREET SEAPORT —  A sweet, frozen "mermaid," a "salty pimp" and other Big Gay Ice Cream favorites are on their way to the seaport.

The ice cream shop known for its tasty and tongue-in-cheek ice cream concoctions — the "mermaid" is a vanilla ice cream, key lime curd and graham cracker combo, while the salty pimp is a dulce de leche-dipped soft serve cone, sprinkled with sea salt — is setting up shop in the waterfront neighborhood this summer.

A spokeswoman for the Howard Hughes Corporation, the developer that owns much of the Seaport, said Big Gay Ice Cream will set up a temporary installation for the summer months, before moving into a permanent space.

The location and details for the installation space and its permanent home are still being worked out, she said.

Big Gay Ice Cream, which first launched as a food truck in 2009, has become a city go-to for frozen treats. It now has locations in the East and West Village, as well as a shake shop inside Gansevoort Market and a storefront in Philadelphia.

Earlier this week, Big Gay Ice Cream started selling pint versions of some its favorites, including the Salty Pimp, on Fresh Direct and Amazon and will soon be rolling out in markets.

"It's going to be an exciting summer at the Seaport and we're thrilled to welcome Big Gay Ice Cream," said Cristina Carlson, a Howard Hughes spokeswoman.
