BROOKLYN — A 71-year-old man was fatally struck by the driver of a Jeep in Greenpoint Tuesday morning, police said.

Joseph Ranieri, of Astoria, was crossing Meeker Avenue from north to south between Bridgewater Street and Gardner Avenue when the driver of a 2012 Jeep heading eastbound hit him at roughly 6 a.m., the NYPD said.

He was taken at Woodhull Hospital, where he died of his injuries, police said.

The driver, a 30-year-old man, stayed at the scene and wasn't immediately arrested, police said.

An investigation is ongoing.

CORRECTION: An NYPD spokesman originally identified the victim as a woman.
