THE BRONX — The FDNY deployed its drone for the first time to help navigate a large fire that tore through a Claremont Village apartment building Monday evening, officials said.
The fire erupted inside the sixth floor of 653 Crotona Park N., near Arthur Avenue, about 6:20 p.m., according to an FDNY spokesman.
Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries at Jacobi hospital, the spokesman said.
About 170 firefighters helped bring the blaze under control by 8:10 p.m., according to officials.
The FDNY launched its drone to get a bird's eye view of the fire so that they could better direct firefighters on the ground, officials said.
The drone also has infared capabilities, a spokesman said.
