$10K Golden Jesus Necklace Stolen by Gun-Toting Thief, Police Say

By Allegra Hobbs | March 3, 2017 2:24pm | Updated on March 6, 2017 8:47am

LOWER EAST SIDE — A gun-toting thief stole a 14-karat gold medallion emblazoned with a religious image of Jesus, a necklace chain and a cash-filled Gucci wallet behind the Baruch Houses Saturday, police said.

The 29-year-old victim was behind the housing complex at 555 FDR Drive on Feb. 25 at around 9:48 p.m. when the thief approached him from the side and pulled a black firearm, saying "Give me everything you got," according to a police report.

The suspect tried to yank the victim's gold chain from around his neck but was unsuccessful, police said.

The victim then handed over the necklace, valued at $10,000, along with his $350 brown Gucci wallet that contained $100 in cash, according to authorities.

The thief told the victim to turn around, at which point the victim fled from the robber, police said.

The victim described the thief as a man with long, black braids, according to a police report.
