CHELSEA — A driver was arrested after police found him slumped over at the wheel of his car with a bottle of tequila and a shot glass in the middle of the West Side Highway, the NYPD said.

Officers responding to a report of a reckless driver on the West Side Highway found the 34-year-old man passed out in his vehicle in the middle lane of southbound traffic, near the southwest corner of West 24th Street and 12th Avenue, around 10:15 p.m. on Feb. 25, police said.

An open bottle of Patron tequila and the shot glass were sitting in his front passenger seat, the NYPD said.

The keys were still in the ignition, but the vehicle appeared to be disabled, the NYPD said.

When officers spoke to the driver, they discovered he was “barely coherent,” had bloodshot eyes and smelled like alcohol, police said.

The man, who refused to take a Breathalyzer test, was arrested at the scene.
