MASPETH — The new Kosciuszko Bridge could also be getting a new park.

City and state agencies are considering the construction of new parkland on the Queens side of the bridge, on a portion of land owned by the state's Department of Transportation near the base between 43rd Street, 55th and 54th avenues.

The existing 77-year-old bridge, which links Brooklyn and Queens over Newtown Creek, is slated to be dismantled and blown up this summer to make way for its replacement.

The state DOT would construct the new park, then transfer it to the city to maintain once the build-out is complete, according to NYC Parks Department Spokeswoman Meghan Lalor.

She did not have additional details on the plan, noting that the proposal is in the very early stages.

"Parks has expressed that we're open to the acquisition, but there is no formal agreement yet between Parks and NYSDOT," Lalor said.

The state DOT did not return calls for comment about the proposed park.

The idea comes amid the ongoing overhaul of the Kosciuszko Bridge.
