MIDTOWN — An ex-con out on parole for just six days tried to swipe a woman’s wallet near Port Authority Tuesday before a good Samaritan jumped in, police said.

Jerome Farris, 37, tried to snatch the 36-year-old woman’s wallet as she walked up to a Bank of America ATM on Eighth Avenue between 41st and 42nd streets around 4:10 p.m., Port Authority Police said.

When the woman pulled out her debit card, Farris rushed in and tried to pry her wallet from her, the PAPD said.

That’s when a good Samaritan who was walking by stepped in, causing the wallet to fall to the ground, police said.

Farris fled south, but was eventually caught by Port Authority Police about two blocks away after they got a description of him from a nearby security guard, officials said.

He has 32 prior arrests and was released on parole Feb. 22 after being convicted last year of robbery, the PAPD said.

Farris was charged with attempted robbery, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He was awaiting arraignment Wednesday morning.
