FORDHAM HEIGHTS — A man trying to jump between rooftops to avoid the police fell to his death on Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.

Officers arrived at 2159 Morris Ave. in The Bronx around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday to arrest 28-year-old Devon Wade, but after officers knocked on his apartment door, he tried to make a getaway, climbing out of the window, onto the fire escape and up to the roof, police said.

Wade then tried to leap onto another rooftop but lost his balance in the process and fell to his death, according to the NYPD.

EMS took him to St. Barnabas Hospital after the fall, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The NYPD's Force Investigation Division is looking into the incident.

Wade had 19 prior arrests on charges including trespassing and fraud, police said. They could not immediately say what they were trying to arrest Wade for during the night of the fall.
