MIDTOWN — The city could see record highs Wednesday with temperatures topping 70 degrees as a warm air pocket creeps into the area from the south, forecasters said.

The hot air combined with a lingering low-pressure system will likely make for a soggy start to the month, though, as a quarter-inch of rain is also in the forecast, the National Weather Service said.

The high should reach about 72 degrees for the day, which would fall just one degree shy of the March 1 record set in 1973, meteorologists said.

Dense fog is supposed to roll in by noon and make for poor visibility, according to forecasters.

The wet weather will likely move out of the area by Thursday as the high reaches just 53 degrees.
