HAMILTON HEIGHTS — A mother of three was stabbed to death inside her Hamilton Heights apartment Saturday, police said.

Eloise Liz, 48, was knifed more than a dozen times by Alexander Felix, 34, after he used a crowbar to break into her apartment on West 153rd Street apartment, near Riverside Drive, about 3:50 a.m., NYPD officials and prosecutors said.

Felix, of East New York, then fled south toward Harlem Hospital, police and prosecutors said.

He dropped a black backpack near a garbage can on West 137th Street near Fifth Avenue about 3:50 a.m. before checking himself into the hospital with a hand injury, according to the NYPD and the Manhattan DA's Office said.

Police arrested him later Saturday morning on charges of murder and burglary, officials said.

The open backpack was recovered with a yellow crowbar and a knife sticking out, both items covered in blood, prosecutors said.

Felix has been arrested 10 times before, but many of those police records are sealed, an NYPD spokesman said.

He was arrested twice in 2010 for jumping a turnstile in Queens and criminal mischief in The Bronx, police said.

The relationship between suspect and victim wasn't immediately clear.

Felix was ordered held without bail at his arraignment. His lawyer, Craig Trainor, declined comment.

Neighbors said Liz was a mother who could frequently be seen out walking her dog.

"She was a very nice lady. Her face was always bright. She was always smiling. She was always happy. I saw her a lot last week. I'm going to miss her," Maritza Santiago, 48.

Amos Ramos, 60, agreed.

"She was a terrific woman. She was a great mother. She has three wonderful kids. I talked to her just about every day. She didn't deserve this," Ramos said.
