Piggy Bank Burglar Swipes $5K from East Harlem Woman's Apartment, NYPD Says

By Dartunorro Clark | February 27, 2017 10:45am

EAST HARLEM — A woman told police that a burglar broke into her apartment on East 116th Street earlier this month and made off with $5,000 in cash that was tucked away in her bedroom.

The 45-year-old victim told police that the cash was inside a wallet in her bedroom dresser, as well as in a piggy bank behind the dresser, the NYPD said.

She said the theft, which she reported to police on Feb. 14, occurred sometime between Feb. 5 and 10, a police report said.

She also noticed several scratches on her apartment door, though officials said there did not appear to be any signs of forced entry.

There had been no arrests as Feb. 23.
