THE BRONX — An elderly woman was killed when a fire engulfed her Morris Heights apartment Thursday night, authorities said.

The 78-year-old woman was found unconscious in her bedroom after the blaze tore through her third-floor apartment at 1770 Andrews Ave., near East Tremont Avenue, about 11:55 p.m., police and fire officials said.

More than 60 firefighters worked to bring it under control about an hour later, the FDNY said.

The woman was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital but couldn’t be saved.

Her identity was not immediately released.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, the FDNY said.
