MOUNT EDEN — A new residential building with affordable apartments and supportive housing for people with mental health issues is set to rise on 172nd Street.

The building will be located at 111 E. 172nd St. and feature 126 apartments — 68 studios, 57 two-bedrooms and a superintendent's unit — and an urban farm, according to the New York State Division of Homes and Community Renewal.

There will be 60 studio apartments set aside for people with mental health concerns, and the rest of the units will be set aside for households earning 60 percent or less of the Area Median Income.

The supportive studio apartments will rent for $534 per month, while the remaining studios will rent for $864 per month. The two-bedrooms will rent for $1,122 per month.

Construction on the $52.3 million project is expected to be completed by June 2018, and it will feature on-site social and medical services for tenants.

The building is being developed by the mental health nonprofit Community Access and financed by institutions including HCR, the New York State Office of Mental Health, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and Citibank, according to HCR.

It will also feature an urban farm with planting beds where tenants can grow their own vegetables and a collaborative commercial kitchen for tenants to cook and learn about nutrition.

"Providing high-quality homes with on-site supportive services is one of the best ways to ensure that individuals who need extra support can live independently and thrive in their communities," HCR Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas said in a statement.
