Group Pelts Driver's Car with Rocks, Causing $1K in Damage, Police Say

CHELSEA — A group of people pelted a driver’s car with rocks, breaking his window and causing more than $1,000 worth of damage, the NYPD said.

The 55-year-old victim was sitting in his car at the northeast corner of West 26th Street and 11th Avenue around 7:35 p.m. on Feb. 18 when a group of eight or nine men started throwing rocks at the car, breaking his window, police said.

The damage cost more than $1,000 to repair, the NYPD said.

Police did not have a description of the attackers. 

Other recent crimes in the 10th Precinct include:

► A 42-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were arguing over trash inside an apartment on West 28th Street, near 10th Avenue, around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 17 when the 28-year-old pulled a knife on the 42-year-old and said, “I’m going to kill you,” the NYPD said. The 28-year-old was arrested for menacing.

► A 53-year-old man was arrested after security at a CVS at 272 Eighth Ave., near West 24th Street, caught him trying to leave the store with 12 pints of ice cream worth $75 at 12:25 p.m. on Feb. 19, police said. An employee working at the CVS on Wednesday declined to comment on the incident.

► A 27-year-old woman was having breakfast with a friend inside Coppelia, at the corner of West 14th Street and Seventh Avenue, around 7:45 a.m. on Feb. 18 when a man reached into her purse and stole $47 in cash, police said. The 43-year-old thief tried to flee on foot, but was ultimately arrested. The restaurant’s owner couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

► A 22-year-old man was arrested inside of a Fulton Houses building on West 19th Street after he was seen in the lobby around 2:43 p.m. on Feb. 17 with a 15-inch knife, the NYPD said. During the arrest, the man flailed his arms and pulled away to prevent officers from handcuffing him.

► A 29-year-old man told police he was at the bar inside the Dream Downtown Hotel at 355 W. 16th St., near Ninth Avenue, around 2 a.m. on Feb. 19 when another man punched him in the face, leaving him with swelling and bruising. No one had been arrested in connection with the attack as of Wednesday, and the hotel didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.

► An attacker punched a 25-year-old man in the face in front of the Norwood Club at 241 W. 14th St., between Seventh and Eighth avenues, around 1:45 a.m. on Feb. 15 after the two got into a dispute, police said. The 25-year-old, who was left with a bruised and swollen face and injured his thumb bracing his fall, was treated at Lenox Hill Hospital. Police hadn’t arrested the man who punched him as of Wednesday, and a manager at the Norwood Club didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
