MIDTOWN — Down jackets gave way to T-shirts Sunday as New Yorkers welcomed spring-like weather — and the record-breaking temperatures are predicted to return this week.
The high at JFK Airport hit 68 degrees Sunday, passing the previous Feb. 19 peak of 66 degrees that was set in 1997, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures will dip Monday with a high of just 48 degrees, but the unseasonable weather should resume later in the week, forecasters said.
Thursday’s high could top 67 degrees, according to the NWS spokesman Jay Engle.
Tuesday is expected to be closer to normal for February, with temperatures in the mid-40s and rain at night, Engle said.
