BROOKLYN — A suspect who shot and killed a man as the victim tried to defend his girlfriend during a fight in a Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment building hallway was arrested Tuesday, police said.

Maurice Lindsey, 29, was intervening in the fight on the sixth floor of 1625 Fulton St., near Lewis Avenue, about 8:55 p.m. on Jan. 30 when Taariq King, 18, pulled a gun and shot him in the chest, according to police and witnesses.

Lindsey slumped against a wall clutching his chest as King shot him twice more in the back and shoulder, police said.

He was pronounced dead at Interfaith Medical Center, police said.

King was arrested Tuesday on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said. The circumstances of his arrest weren't immediately clear.

King, of Claremont Village, hadn't been arraigned as of Wednesday morning, records show.
