The man had shoplifted from a Duane Reade on East 102nd Street near Madison Avenue about 12:20 p.m., according to police.

Police were putting him into a department vehicle when he took off going east while his hands were handcuffed behind his back, the NYPD said.

The escapee is described as standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 150 pounds with a thin build. He was last seen wearing an olive green waist-length jacket, green hoodie, gray sweat pants and a black v-neck shirt.
