STATEN ISLAND — A man died and 14 others were hurt, including seven firefighters, when a fire tore through an Elm Park house Thursday morning, FDNY officials said.

The blaze began about 7 a.m. inside 1028 Post Ave., near Heberton Avenue, an FDNY spokesman said.

The man was found on the first floor of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The victim's brother, a 69-year-old man, was one of those injured in the fire and was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North in critical condition, according to police and FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro.

A 12-year-old girl, 43-year-old man, 26-year-old man and 11-year-old boy were also injured in the fire, police said. They were treated for smoke inhalation and minor scrapes and bruises at the hospital.

All seven firefighters sustained minor injuries in the blaze, the FDNY said.

About 140 firefighters brought the blaze under control at 8:59 a.m., officials said. Nigro said the snowstorm did not have an impact on putting out the blaze.

Fire marshals will determine what sparked the blaze, officials said.

The identity of the victim's being held until his family's notified, police said.
