NYPD Warns Queens To Be Vigilant After 4 Break-Ins in Less Than a Week

By Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska | February 8, 2017 4:35pm

QUEENS — Police officials urged Forest Hills and Rego Park residents to take steps to avoid becoming the victims of burglars who have broken into four homes in less than a week, authorities said.

The burglaries occurred on Alderton, Bourton and Fitchett streets in Rego Park and on Clyde Street in Forest Hills. All four break-ins have taken place since last Thursday, according to the 112th Precinct's commanding officer, Capt. Robert Ramos.

He also called the incidents, which all happened between 5 and 7:30 p.m., “extremely unusual for residential burglaries.”

One of the victims was home when someone tried to break into her house, police said. The woman saw a hand coming through the back window. She screamed and the suspect fled.

In two other instances, the suspects stole cash and jewelry, police officials said. In the other two cases the suspects didn't take anything.

The 112th Precinct Community Council posted several tips on its Facebook page, advising homeowners to make sure that back doors and windows are locked even when they're home and to leave outside lights on.
