CROWN HEIGHTS — A new 17,000-square-foot co-working space is headed for one of the neighborhood’s largest office buildings, its owners said Wednesday.

The office space company Ignitia will open its new space at 1000 Dean St. this summer, bringing private offices and shared desk space to the first floor of the former Studebaker car service building in northern Crown Heights, according to Chris Havens of TerraCRG, who brokered the deal.

Previously, the space had been leased to a different co-working company, The Vault, which had planned to use the cavernous warehouse-like space once used to house the winter season of the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg markets.

The Vault’s deal fell through soon after the agreement, according to sources close to the transaction. The company still operates in San Francisco.

Ignitia plans to renovate the space to include conference rooms, high speed internet and private indoor and outdoor space, the company said in a news release. Prices at the new co-working office will start at $450 a month, Ignitia said.

The area has attracted a series of co-working spaces in recent years. Across the street, a small co-working office called Dean Machine has been operating since 2014. Around the corner on Franklin Avenue, the group opened a second location, Franklin Electric, last year. Nearby in Prospect Heights, co-working company Industrious has opened an 18,800-square-foot office across from the Pacific Park complex.
