WEST VILLAGE — A woman walking with her friends on West 14th Street was attacked by her ex-boyfriend who pulled her hair, punched her in the face and stole her phone, police said.

The 42-year-old woman got into a brief argument with her 37-year-old ex-boyfriend, William Mulligan, before he punched her at roughly 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, police said.

Mulligan then pulled her hair, stole her Samsung Galaxy 7S phone and ran away, police said.

The woman received medical treatment for a bruised eye that night and reported the incident to police the next day, according to NYPD records.

He was arrested on Jan. 25, and charged with robbery in the second degree with intent to cause physical injury and robbery in the third degree, both felonies, according to court records.

The NYPD said he has a lengthy rap sheet dating back to 1996, and Department of Parole records show he was on parole at the time of his most recent arrest.

Mulligan is currently being held on bail of $30,000 bond or $15,000 cash. He was indicted by a grand jury on Feb. 6 and is scheduled to be arraigned in New York Supreme Court on March 14.

His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
