BUSHWICK — A stalled plan to hammer out a rezoning for the neighborhood drafted by the community is back on track, with a town hall scheduled for Saturday Feb. 11, according to its organizers.

The Bushwick Community Plan will host a workshop from 11 to 3 p.m. at Ridgewood Bushwick Youth Center at 1474 Gates Ave, where Bushwick residents can give input on how they think the neighborhood should look going forward.

Bushwick residents can get involved in different subcommittees on land use, housing, open space, health, economic development and transportation and infrastructure, according to organizers.

The plan, which has been in the works for around three years following the Rheingold Brewery rezoning, will draft new zoning codes for the neighborhood that better preserve neighborhood character so developers can't build towers in the middle of low-rise blocks, while at the same time increasing density along main corridors to build as much affordable housing as possible.

Once the coalition of community organizers, community board members and local residents develop a plan, they'll pitch it to the city for a formal rezoning process.

Organizers hit some stumbling blocks last fall, when city officials abruptly said they wouldn't come to a town hall meeting scheduled for Oct. 15. The cancelation happened just a few weeks after Councilman Reynoso helped shut down a city planning meeting called to discuss a large apartment complex development in the Broadway Triangle area of Williamsburg formerly owned by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.

City officials from the Department of City Planning, Housing Preservation and Development and other agencies will be at the Feb. 11 summit, according to organizers.
