LOWER MANHATTAN — A man jumped onto a police car that was stopped at a red light and smashed his head into the windshield, authorities said.
The officers were at Hudson and Van Dam streets at about 4:10 a.m. Monday when 31-year-old Alexander Fathalla hopped onto their car and bashed his head into the windshield, causing it to crack, police said.
Police said Fathalla resisted arrested, and was found carrying a controlled substance inside an Altoids mints box.
Fathalla was arrested on charges of criminal mischief, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct, police said.
As of Monday evening, he had not yet been arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court.
