LOWER EAST SIDE — A burglar chased out of an East Broadway apartment by a woman who punched him on the arm returned to a neighboring building days later to steal a wad of cash and a phone days later, police said.

The latest incident took place inside a Henry Street apartment between Rutgers and Jefferson streets on Jan. 14 at around noon, when the tenant came home to find the suspect standing inside his home, police said.

The burglar shoved the 55-year-old victim before fleeing on foot, according to authorities. The victim then looked around his apartment and found that $100 cash and a blue Nokia phone had been taken, according to a police report.

Days earlier, the suspect broke into a nearby East Broadway apartment, but was scared off before he could steal anything.

The victim of that attempt told police he was awoken at around 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 10 by the sound of the front door to his apartment near Pike Street opening, then saw a man standing in the hallway.

The victim's girlfriend screamed, scaring the suspect away, and she hit him on the arm as he fled, according to a police report.

Police have released images taken from surveillance footage of the suspect.
