Man on Parole for Burglary Breaks Into Home on His Block, Prosecutors Say

By Nicholas Rizzi | January 19, 2017 4:15pm

WEST BRIGHTON — A man on parole for burglary was arrested after he broke into a home on his block two days after his release, prosecutors said.

Kevin Harding, 48, broke the back door of a Lawrence Avenue home on Jan. 7 at about 5:30 p.m. and stole cash, stamps and car keys from inside, according to his criminal complaint.

He then used the keys to get into the home owner's car and drove away with it, prosecutors said.

Harding, who also lives on Lawrence Avenue, was caught on surveillance video breaking into the home and was arrested nearby on Saturday with the stamps in his pocket, according to his complaint.

He was charged with burglary, unauthorized use of a vehicle, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief at his Sunday arraignment, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said. His bail was set at $50,000.

Harding previously spent time in jail four times for burglary, attempted burglary and attempted criminal mischief, according to the Department of Correction.

His lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
