ASTORIA — The Parks Department will present ideas for upgrades to Astoria Park next week and gather feedback from residents on proposals such as building a soccer field for the running track or installing extra lighting throughout the green space.

The "Community Report Back Meeting" will take place at 7 p.m. on Jan. 25 at the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden, where Parks Department staff will present its preliminary plans for how to use $30 million in capital funding to improve the park over the next three years.

The recommendations are based on public feedback the city received during a community workshop this fall, as well as ideas people submitted online, according to the agency.

Designers for the Parks Department identified which suggestions came up the most often and fit within the requirements of the city's Anchor Parks program.

Those ideas include a soccer field for the running track, building rain gardens to help manage water runoff and installing additional lighting, according to agency spokeswoman Meghan Lalor.

The community will be able to hear the rest of the recommendations and then offer its feedback on the preliminary plan, officials said.

The meeting will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 29-19 24th Ave. It will be  accessible to those with disabilities, and Spanish translators will be available. Kids are welcome and light refreshments will be served.
