STATEN ISLAND — A suspect who hid in Las Vegas after fatally shooting a man outside of a West Brighton bar pleaded guilty to manslaughter, officials said.

Christopher Harrell, 27, took a last minute guilty plea Tuesday for gunning down Anthony Pollard, 24, in the chest in 2013 after the trial's sixth day, the Staten Island Advance first reported.

Harrell will be sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder, with five years probation, on Jan. 31 as part of the plea, District Attorney Michael McMahon said.

"This defendant displayed a callous disregard for human life by shooting the victim in the street," said McMahon in a statement.

"Senseless acts of gun violence will not be tolerated in Staten Island and the defendant will now be held accountable for his actions."

On Dec. 2, 2013, Harrell shot Pollard in the chest in front of the then Black Dog Grill, 386 Forest Ave., at about 3:48 a.m., police said.

Pollard was taken to Richmond University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Harrell fled the city after the murder and lived in a Las Vegas suburb working jobs under an alias for a year, the Advance reported. He was eventually arrested in December 2014.
