CHELSEA — A woman who covered her apartment door with wrapping paper later discovered someone had set fire to it, the NYPD said.

The 54-year-old was cooking inside her apartment at a Fulton Houses building on West 17th Street around 7 p.m. on Jan. 5 when a neighbor knocked on her door and told her the decorations on her door had been burned, police said.

When the woman checked, she discovered “unknown people” had burned the wrapping paper off of it, the NYPD said.

The door itself wasn’t damaged, and there were no cameras in the hallway to capture the incident, police said.

The woman reported the incident to the NYPD the next morning.
