UPPER EAST SIDE — Bus stops that were moved during construction of the Second Avenue Subway will return to their original locations along the stretch by the end of January, city officials say.
Representatives of NYC Transit presented a map of where they plan to place permanent bus stops on Second Avenue, from East 72nd to 96th streets, to Community Board 8's transportation committee and Second Avenue Subway task force on Wednesday.
Most of the stops are being put back where they were before the agency moved them to make way for construction, with some exceptions:
The M15 Select Bus Service bus stop on the west side of the stretch, between 88th and 89th streets, will be moved two blocks south between 86th and 87th streets, and the stop on the northwest corner of 100th street, will be moved down between 95th and 96th streets.
The M15 local bus stops will remain the same, except the bus will stop on the northwest corner of 99th street instead of at 100th Street; and on the northwest corner of 86th Street instead of the southwest corner.
It will likely take two to three weeks to finish the installation of all the stops on the stretch, according to Marcus Book, a spokesman for NYC Transit.
These are the planned permanent Second Avenue bus stops, according to the map:
► The M15 local bus will stop at the southwest corners of 96th, 89th, 84th, 82nd, 74th, 72nd, 69th, 68th and 65th streets, and at the northwest corners of 78th, 86th, and 99th streets.
► The M15 Select Bus Service will stop at the northwest corner of 95th, 86th, and 67th streets.
► The crosstown bus stops for the M96 will be located on the north and south sides of 96th Street on the west side of Second Avenue.
► Crosstown M86 bus stops will be located on the northwest corner of 86th Street and Second Avenue for westbound buses, and on the southeast side of the intersection for eastbound buses.
► The crosstown bus stops for the M72 will be on the west side of Second Avenue, with westbound buses on the north side of the street and eastbound buses on the south side.
