FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A man was slashed on the forehead and kicked in the stomach by a fellow straphanger after falling asleep on an uptown 3 train last week, police said.

The 26-year-old victim dozed off after boarding the train at the Wall Street station at about 9 p.m. on Jan. 8, but was awoken a couple of stops later, at the Park Place station near City Hall, by a man shouting obscenities and telling the victim to give up his seat.

"Give me that seat mother f---er a--hole," the man told the victim, according to police.

When the victim refused to move, the suspect took out a knife, hit the man in the face with its handle and slashed him across the left side of his forehead, police said.

The suspect then kicked and punched the victim in the stomach until the victim fled to another subway car and got off at 72nd Street, where he reported the incident to police, according to authorities.

The attacker is described as about 20 years old, standing 5-foot-6 and weighing roughly 170 pounds.

Police were still investigating the incident.
