LOWER EAST SIDE — A thief hopped in a Honda Pilot and sped off while the car's owner was busy scraping snow off the rear windshield on Thursday afternoon, according to police.

The 53-year-old car owner was wiping the snow off the back of his white Honda Pilot 4WD SUV at the corner of Montgomery and Henry streets when an unseen thief crawled into the driver's seat and sped away, according to authorities.

The man said he had left the car running and the keys in the ignition while wiping off the snow, according to a police report.

The thief fled south on Montgomery Street in the stolen vehicle, police said, which is valued at around $35,000.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
