MIDTOWN — The city issued a travel advisory for Saturday with several inches of snow expected to fall throughout the day.

Light snow is expected to start falling in the morning and continue throughout the day, according to the Emergency Management Department. The city could see up the three inches by the time the flakes stop in the early evening.

Pedestrians are advised to wear sturdy boots and use handrails when using stairs. Those who have to drive are advised to go slowly and use major streets or highways when possible.

Temperatures were expected to plunge into the low 20s Friday night with wind chill values in the teens. Highs on Saturday were forecasted to reach the upper 20s before dropping into the teens during the night.

Highs were expected to remain in the 20s and teens on Sunday and not break the freezing mark again until Tuesday.

New Yorkers should stay indoors as much as possible, officials said, and wear dry, warm clothing and cover all exposed skin when outside.

If you or someone near you appears to be suffering from hypothermia do not hesitate to call 911.

A Code Blue was also ordered for homeless people and city shelters were ordered to accept anyone seeking relief from the cold.
