NEW YORK CITY — The Port Authority stepped up security at city airports Friday following the mass shooting at the airport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, officials said.

Emergency Service Unit teams with tactical weapons will conduct anti-terrorism patrols and there will be additional K-9 explosive detection teams, according to the agency.

There will also be an increase in random bag checks at the air trains at JFK and Newark airports.

At least five people were killed when a gunman opened fire in a baggage claim area in the south Florida airport Friday afternoon.

There is believed to be only one shooter and one person was in custody in connection to the shooting, according to Fort Lauderdale police officials.
