UPDATE: The Chipotle at 260 E. 161st St. was originally scheduled to open on Jan. 21. It was then rescheduled to Feb. 4 due to "construction delays," according to a spokeswoman, which were also the reason the restaurant pushed the opening back again to March 6.
CONCOURSE — The South Bronx's first Chipotle will open on on March 6, the company said.
The fast-food chain will open its doors at 260 E. 161st St., right next to a Starbucks and across the street from the Bronx County Hall of Justice. Its standard hours of operation will be from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day of the week.
The popular Mexican eatery was originally supposed to open in January, but it was pushed back until Feb. 4.
"From time to time, construction delays will impact our target restaurant opening dates," a spokeswoman told DNAinfo New York at the time of the Feb. 4 delay. When contacted again about the additional delay to March 6, the spokeswoman said construction issues were again to blame.
There are currently three Chipotle locations in the borough — in Fordham, Throgs Neck and Kingsbridge — but this will be its first outpost in the South Bronx, according to the company.
The number of Chipotle restaurants throughout New York City has increased sharply over the past few years — going from 37 in 2012 to 67 in 2016, according to the Center for an Urban Future.
