QUEENS — A popular Williamsburg-based Mexican eatery will soon launch its new outpost in Rego Park, the owners said.

La Gringa Mexican Bar & Grill will open at a still-to-be-determined date in February at 63-34 Woodhaven Blvd. in a space that remained vacant for more than a decade.

The owners of La Gringa Taqueria, which opened in Williamsburg at 800 Grand St. in 2012, said they wanted to expand and picked the strip of storefronts along Woodhaven Boulevard in Rego Park for their new location.

“There was no Mexican restaurant in this little area and we wanted to expand our Brooklyn business,” said Adalis Valez, 34, one of the owners.

The owners said that they first saw the Rego Park space last April, and began working on it in June. Renovations took about 7 months because over the years the space had fallen into disrepair.

“We had to upgrade the entire location,” said Giovani Gomez, 32, also a co-owner.

The new restaurant will feature rustic decor made from reclaimed wood purchased at various lumber lards, including a 100-year-old pew and a bar made from an old church door.

The menu will include several Mexican classics currently served at the Brooklyn location, such as burritos, quesadillas, nachos and tacos, but it will be expanded to also feature some Italian flavors and popular American dishes, the owners said.

Valez said that their restaurant is known for “putting sweet plantains on everything,” as well as for its chipotle sauce, which is made with sour cream instead of mayonnaise, Valez said.

"All our food is organic and we make everything fresh from scratch," she said.

The location will seat approximately 70 people and will include a private event space.
