FINANCIAL DISTRICT —  A piece of metal mysteriously crashed into the window of an 18th floor hotel room Wednesday, causing glass and the metal slab itself to fall more than 150 feet to the ground, authorities said.

The metal, about 1 foot by 1 foot in size, hit the window of a Millennium Hilton Hotel room, at 55 Church St., just before 4 p.m.

A hotel spokesman, Chris Hill, said the room had been rented, but its guests were not inside when the metal smashed against the window. It remains unclear where the metal came from.

FDNY officials said no one was injured by the falling glass or metal piece.

The room's glass pane has been fully removed, but has not yet been replaced, Hill said Thursday.

"It was quite a bizarre incident," Hill added.

Hill said the hotel had filed a police report and will cooperate with any continued investigation.
