68-Year-Old Man 'Made a Mistake' When Groping Teen Girl on Queens Bus: Docs

By Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska | January 5, 2017 2:40pm

QUEENS — A 68-year-old man groped a 13-year-old girl on a Queens bus in Briarwood Tuesday morning and acknowledged he “made a mistake” before getting arrested, authorities said.

The victim was on the Q44 bus around 8 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Union Turnpike and Main Street when Zacarias Timana, 68, groped and fondled her buttocks, officials said.

The teen then turned around, saw Timana standing behind her and asked him to stop, according to his criminal complaint.

He said: “Okay,” but when she turned around he groped her buttocks again, according to court documents.

When the girl walked to the front of the bus to ask the driver to call the police, Timana followed her and said, “I made a mistake,” before police officers arrived and arrested him, according to the complaint.

Timana was charged with sexual abuse, forcible touching and child endangerment, and was released on his own recognizance, following his arraignment Wednesday.

Timana, whose attorney did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment, is due back in court on Feb. 27, according to court documents.

The story was first reported by the New York Daily News.
