MIDTOWN — The first week of 2017 is expected to bring the winter's first real snowfall with an inch expected to fall Friday.

Coastal areas in Queens and Staten Island are expected to be hit the hardest, according to forecasters from the National Weather Service.

“It doesn’t seem like a lot, but it could be a problem for the commute,” spokesman Joe Pollina said. “It could be higher or lower depending on the track of the low-pressure system.”

He said the snowfall will be caused by cold air from Canada colliding with a weather system coming off the Rockies.

The temperature on Friday is expected to linger just above the freezing mark.

Saturday is expected to be sunny, but even colder as the high reaches just 30 degrees, forecasters said.
