Purse Snatcher Slashes Woman's Hand After Holding Knife to Her Throat: NYPD

SOUTH STREET SEAPORT —  A woman had to get nine stitches in her hand after a robber slashed her with a knife and ran off with her purse Monday night, police said.

The 25-year-old victim was walking in front of 217 Water St., at Beekman Street, at about 7:45 p.m. when the suspect held a blade to her throat and pulled on her bag, authorities said.

The thief demanded she hand over her bag, and when she did, he slashed her hand with the knife and fled with her purse, heading west on Beekman Street, police said.

The victim was taken to Lower Manhattan Hospital-New York-Presbyterian and received nine stitches in her right hand, police said.

The attacker is described as approximately 30 years old, standing 5-foot-8, weighing 160 pounds and last seen wearing a dark blue hoodie, blue jeans, black shoes and possibly a dark cap.
