LOWER EAST SIDE — A man was shot in the shoulder early Tuesday at Essex and Hester streets following a car chase, police said.

The 31-year-old was shot around 4:34 a.m. after two cars chased each other through the Lower East Side, police said.

The victim walked into New York Presbyterian Hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and received treatment, police said. His condition was unknown.

Authorities could not immediately say which streets the cars had been driving on and couldn't specify the make, model or color of the vehicles.

Essex Street remained blocked with police tape between East Broadway and Grand Streets as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday, with broken glass littering the scene.
