MIDTOWN — Crowds will flock to Times Square on New Year's Eve to ring in 2017, and the revelry will shut down dozens of streets in the area to traffic and parking, according to the NYPD.

Officials are urging residents to use public transportation to get around, and those who do choose to drive should expect traffic delays throughout Midtown. Times Square itself will be closed to vehicles starting at 4 a.m. on Saturday, police said.

Those who want to watch the ball drop in person will be directed to specific viewing areas beginning around 11 a.m., and are prohibited from bringing umbrellas, backpacks and other large bags, according to the NYPD.

Visitors are also banned from bringing alcohol to the celebration, and anyone who leaves their spot before midnight will not be allowed to return to their original viewing area, police said.

The following streets will be closed to all traffic on Saturday:

► Starting at 4 a.m.: Seventh Avenue from 43rd to 48th streets; Broadway from 47th to 48th streets; 46th and 47th streets from Sixth to Eighth avenues

► Starting at 1:30 p.m.: Seventh Avenue from 41st to 59th streets; Broadway from 47th to 59th streets; 43rd to 47th streets from Sixth to Eighth avenues

► Starting at 5 p.m.: 42nd Street from Sixth to Eight avenues

► From 6:30 p.m., depending on crowd conditions: all crosstown streets from 37th to 41st streets from Sixth to Eighth avenues; all crosstown streets from 49th to 59th streets from Sixth to Eighth avenues; 48th Street from Fifth to Ninth avenues.

There will be no parking in the following areas from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday until 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, according to the NYPD:

► All crosstown streets from 33rd to 59th streets between Sixth and Eighth avenues
► West side of Fifth Avenue from 37th to 52nd streets
► Broadway between 34th and 59th streets
► Seventh Avenue between 34th and 59th streets
► Ninth Avenue between 41st and 43rd streets
► West side of 10th Avenue from 58th to 59th streets
► Both sides of 11th Avenue from 34th to 39th streets
► East side of 11th Avenue from 58th to 59th streets
► Both sides of Eighth Avenue from 34th to 59th streets
► 34th Street between Fifth and Ninth avenues
► 34th Street between 11th and 12th avenues
► 37th Street between Fifth and Eighth avenues
► 38th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues
► 39th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues
► 40th Street between Fifth and Ninth avenues
► 41st Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues
► 42nd Street between First and Second avenues
► 42nd Street between Fifth and Ninth avenues
► 43rd Street between Fifth and Eighth avenues
► 44th Street between Sixth and Ninth avenues
► 45th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues
► 46th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues
► 47th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues
► 48th Street between Fifth and Ninth avenues
► 49th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues
► 50th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues
