HARLEM — It came close to being his own funeral.

A 32-year-old man was shot while leaving a funeral service on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. earlier this month, police said.

The victim had been at the service at Mount Neboh Baptist Church, at 1883 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., at 10:40 a.m. on Dec. 17 when an unknown man walked up to him, punched him in the face and pulled out a gun, police said.

The suspect fired two shots, one of which hit the victim in the right hand.

The Daily News reported that the two men exchanged words before the shooting and described the suspect as a churchgoer. It's unknown whose funeral he was attending.

“Yo, black, let me holla at you,” the shooter told the victim, according to the Daily News. “Do you know me?” he added, before shooting the victim in his right hand, the paper reported.

An NYPD spokesman could not confirm what the shooter said.

Police said the suspect fled on foot down West 114th Street.

The victim walked to the subway on West 116th Street and Lenox Avenue and took a train to Harlem Hospital at West 135th Street, police said.

The suspect was described by police as in his mid-20s, wearing dark clothing, standing 5-foot-5 and weighing about 160 pounds.
