TREMONT — An 11-year-old girl was struck and killed while crossing the street on Tuesday morning, according to the NYPD.

A 35-year-old man in a 2014 black Toyota Camry was driving west on East 180th Street when he hit the child at 11:42 a.m. as she was crossing East 180th Street from the south to the north corner, at the intersection of Hughes Avenue, police said.

Emergency responders took the girl to St. Barnabas Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police have not released the girl's name.

The driver stayed on the scene and was not arrested as of Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing.
