UPPER EAST SIDE — Gov. Andrew Cuomo and MTA Chairman and CEO Tom Prendergast will be the Second Avenue subway line's first riders during an inaugural New Year's Eve ride.
Cuomo and Prendergast will board the train at the 72nd Street station at 10:30 p.m., and stop at the line's two other new stations at 86th and 96th Streets, the governor's office announced.
“For decades, the Second Avenue Subway was something New Yorkers only talked about,” Cuomo said in a statement. “I am proud to ring in the New Year on the Second Avenue Subway.”
Contractors have been working around the clock to complete the new subway line, which has been nearly 100 years in the making.
The line is expected to open to the public at noon on Jan. 1.
