NEW SPRINGVILLE — A pair of women were arrested after they stole nearly $1,700 worth of gift cards and clothes from Macy's, prosecutors said.

Ashely Sherman, 20, who works at the store, and Ameera Collins, 18, took $1,675 worth of items from the Macy's at the Staten Island Mall on Dec. 18 at 5:50 p.m., according to a criminal complaint.

The pair was caught on surveillance camera leaving the store with the items and arrested the next day, prosecutors said.

They were charged with grand larceny, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property at their arraignments, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

Sherman had an open warrant for charges of petit larceny since September and she was arrested in July on gun charges, according to online court records.

Her bail was set at $500 for her latest arrest and she's due back in court on March 2, court records show.

Sherman's lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Collins was released without bail and she's due back in court on March 2, according to court records.

Her lawyer could not be reached for comment.
