SOHO — Flatiron chocolatier L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates relocated to SoHo this month, opening their new store on Prince Street.

L.A. Burdick was founded in New York City in 1987 by Larry Burdick after a stay in Switzerland, and has sold hand-crafted chocolates for nearly three decades.

"Our roots are in New York City and it has always had a special meaning to us," said Chief Operating Officer Cathy Watson in a statement.

L.A. Burdick's products are made in New Hampshire using European methods and all-natural ingredients.

The company's chocolatier, Michael Klug, took over from Burdick in 2002. He sources cocoa beans from all over the world, and flavors his confections with fruit, tea, coffee, alcohol, herbs and spices.

"The chocolate should always be the focus, the different flavor variations should strike a harmonic balance with the chocolate as well as add complexity to the flavor," Klug said in a statement.

Klug also said he is excited the company is now based in the "inspiring and creative artistic neighborhood" of SoHo.

The move to SoHo came about when their lease at the Flatiron location ended in August, according to a spokeswoman, and they were unable to find another location in that neighborhood that they felt matched the "charm" of their brand.
