CHELSEA — A man was pulled to safety after falling down a 15-foot deep hole Wednesday afternoon at a Chelsea building under construction, officials said.

Fire department officials said the man, who was delivering materials to the 221 W. 29th St site, accidentally fell in the hole at about 2 p.m.

Three firefighters were able to get down into the small hole with a ladder and secure the man to a stretcher. He was then hooked into a pulley system and taken out of the hole, the FDNY said.

The whole rescue took about 30 minutes, a fire department spokesman said.

The man, who was not identified by officials, was taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition, but a fire department spokesman said the victim had no visible injuries.

It was not immediately clear what the man was delivering.

A 21-story, 95-unit mixed use building is currently under construction at site. The building's developers did not immediately return request for comment.

The Department of Buildings said it was investigating the incident.
