THE BRONX — A trio of perplexed thieves stole a cell phone from a 17-year-old boy at an East Tremont subway station following a bizarre exchange in which they couldn’t decide whether they actually wanted the device or not, police said Thursday.

One of the suspects threatened the teen Dec. 5 and demanded his iPhone 6s at the East Tremont-Grand Concourse D-train stop about 5:40 p.m., the NYPD said.

When the victim handed over the device, an accomplice of the suspect actually gave it back to him, according to police.

But the first suspect then grabbed it again, and the thieves fled along with a lookout, the NYPD said.

They’re described as about 17 years old and 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 inches tall. The first suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket and a black-hooded sweater. The second was last seen wearing a beige, orange and black jacket, black pants and black and white sneakers, police said

The lookout was wearing a black jacket and a dark-colored hooded sweater, according to the NYPD.
