CHELSEA — The owner of Peter McManus Cafe says the Irish pub’s landlord has agreed to extend its lease for a year.

The Renatus Group, which owns the building housing the longtime Seventh Avenue bar, is planning to “draft up paperwork for a year extension and get it to [the bar] after the holidays,” bar owner Justin McManus said Thursday.

The Renatus Group did not immediately respond to request for comment Thursday.

Current and former patrons launched the Coalition to #SaveMcManus Facebook group on Monday, after a report said the bar was in danger of closing soon.

In a post on the group’s page, Justin McManus said the group told him development at the site is “not something that is imminent.”

“[The short-term lease] is obviously not a solution to solve our long-term goals with the business, but it keeps our head above water for the time being,” he wrote.

He also thanked the dozens of people who left concerned messages on the page.

“Hearing how much [the bar] means to everyone, makes us want to fight for its survival that much more,” he wrote. “I look forward to serving you all a drink real soon.”
