MIDTOWN — The winter's first snow is expected this weekend as temperatures plummet to the freezing point, forecasters said.

The high Friday was expected to reach 41 degrees, but scattered snowflakes are expected Saturday and Sunday as temperatures dip into the mid-30s, according to the National Weather Service.

The white stuff was expected to begin falling for a few hours after 2 p.m. Saturday and could resume Sunday morning. A wintry mix of rain and snow is possible as temperatures fluctuate, forecasters said.

“It doesn’t look like a big snow event at this point,” NWS spokesman Jay Engle said. “It looks like it’ll be too warm.”

Saturday’s high is expected to reach 37 degrees, while Sunday’s lingers around 35 degrees, according to the NWS.

Monday should be mostly sunny with a high near 43 degrees.
